Our Mission

To deliver nutritious meals to residents of Oakville who are unable to attend to their own nutritional needs, but wish to continue living independently in their community.

How We Got Here

Meals on Wheels began in England during World War II and were introduced into Canada in Brantford, Ontario in 1963. In 1976 the Kiwanis Club of Oakville inaugurated a Meals on Wheels program in Oakville – the Oakville Kiwanis Meals on Wheels delivered their first meals in October of that year and has been operated continuously on a five days a week basis since then. Today Oakville Meals on Wheels has in excess of 300 clients and delivers approximately 2100 meals/food items per month.

Our Vision

React to the needs of clients and caregivers, with respect and a responsive team to deliver affordable quality meals together with the positive benefits of social contact, security and increased independence.

Our Core Values

The simple act of delivering food to someone who needs a meal is the metaphor for the culture of caring that permeates through our service delivery. We are small enough to know our clients and volunteers as individuals.  Our staff attends to needs and concerns of our clients and their caregivers with considered attention.

We are here to deliver and fill a vital community service. We dedicate ourselves to continuous quality and improvement. We are proud of our high level of commitment from staff and volunteers.

While serving all people equally, we are attentive to the individual changing needs and requests from the people we serve.

We listen and respond to the needs expressed by individuals, as well as to the changing needs as they arise in the community.

We appreciate your feedback.  Please complete our latest Stakeholders Survey by clicking here.

Staff, Board, and volunteers are trained to provide a quality of service. Within all groups and in relationship to each other and to our funders and our community, we strive to be an agency that exhibits openness, honesty, transparency and accountability. We utilize resources wisely and efficiently.

Not only has she delivered a hot meal twice weekly for 38 of Meals on Wheels’ 40 years in Oakville, but she has also volunteered at Oakville Hospital pharmacy for 25 years, in Patient Transportation for 22 years and transports seniors to the Meals on Wheels program at the Sir John Colborne Center.
